As part of the International Nurses Day 2026 celebrations, the Department of Nursing organized a week-long series of awareness programs, competitions, and cultural activities from 04 May 2026 to 08 May 2026. The theme for International Nurses Day 2026 was “Our Nurses. Our Future. Empowered Nurses Save Lives.”
Day 1 – 04/05/2026
Cervical Cancer Awareness Stall and Pamphlet Distribution
Face Painting Competition
Nursing students actively participated in a face painting competition, creatively conveying health awareness messages to patients and visitors.

Overview of the Day of Evnet (12/05/2026)
The Department of Nursing, Sri Manakula Vinayagar Medical College and Hospital, celebrated World Nurses Day 2026 on 12th May 2026 at the Hospital Basement Auditorium. The program was organized to recognize and appreciate the invaluable contributions of nurses towards patient care and healthcare services. The celebration brought together nursing professionals, hospital administrators, faculty members, and dignitaries in a spirit of unity, dedication, and professional pride.
The event was conducted under the patronage of Shri. M. Dhanasekaran, Chancellor, Takshashila University, Tindivanam, Tamil Nadu and Chairman & Managing Director, SMVE Trust, along with the support of the management and hospital administration.

Program Highlight
The program commenced with a Prayer Song, invoking blessings for the successful conduct of the event.
The traditional Lighting of the Kuthuvilakku was performed by the dignitaries, symbolizing the illumination of knowledge, service, and dedication in the nursing profession.
The Nurse’s Pledge was administered by Mrs. N. Velanganni, Deputy Nursing Superintendent, reaffirming the ethical values, responsibilities, and commitment of nurses towards patient care and professional excellence.
Special Address
The gathering was honored by the special address delivered by Shri. M. Dhanasekaran, who acknowledged the tireless efforts, dedication, and sacrifices made by nurses in delivering quality healthcare services. He expressed appreciation for their unwavering commitment and encouraged the nursing fraternity to continue striving for excellence in patient care and professional development.
Theme Presentation
The Introduction of the World Nurses Day Theme was presented by Mrs. B. Leena Grace, Assistant Nursing Superintendent, highlighting the significance of the annual theme and its relevance to contemporary nursing practice. The presentation emphasized the vital role nurses play in strengthening healthcare systems and improving patient outcomes.
Cultural Program
A vibrant cultural program was organized by the nursing staff, featuring:

The performances showcased the creativity, teamwork, and talents of the nursing professionals and received enthusiastic appreciation from the audience.
Awards and Recognition
An Awards and Recognition Ceremony was conducted by Shri. M. Dhanasekaran to honor and appreciate the outstanding contributions and achievements of nursing personnel. Various awards and recognitions were presented to deserving staff members for their dedication, excellence in service, and professional accomplishments.
Vote 0f Thanks
The program concluded with a Vote of Thanks delivered by Mrs. Sudha, Deputy Nursing Superintendent, who expressed heartfelt gratitude to the management, dignitaries, organizers, participants, and nursing staff for their valuable contributions towards the success of the celebration.
The event concluded with the National Anthem.

Nurses day celebration begun with prayer song followed by welcome speech by Staff Nurse Kirubavathi and lighting of kuthuvillakku by Dignitaries.
Unveiling photo of Florence nightingale was done by Acting Nursing superintendent in honor of the founder of modern nursing. Candle lighting ceremony was done by all staff nurses to symbolize the dedication, compassion and unity of nursing staff. Nurses pledge was recited by DNS. Velankanni to reaffirm this commitment to the value and principle of nursing profession, followed by a classical dance by nursing students Miss. Leona, Miss. Devapriya. Special speech given by Deputy Dean (Academic) Dr. Soundariya. Introduction of Theme by DNS Mohana “Our Nurses Our Future caring for Nurses strengthens Economies” and started our cultural programme Karagam, Drama, Miming, Advertisement Price distribution for winners. Nurses day celebration organized by Acting Nursing Superintendent Mrs. Rajalakshmi.

Blood donation drive: The blood donation program commenced with the participation of around 20 staff nurses. The event was initiated by Dr. M. Pragash, Medical Superintendent Dr. K. Karthikeyan, Dean Academic Dr. Ganesh, Tutor of Dentistry and Nursing Superintendent.
Organ donation awareness program: Conducted by nursing students, this program was aimed to educate the public on the importance of organ donation. Pamphlets were distributed by the nursing department to raise the awareness on organ donation.
Welcome and cultural contributions: Welcome speech delivered by S/N Anandhi and Tamil poetry recitation by S/N Rajalakshmi.
