Our nursing philosophy is that we always treat our patients as whole persons, which of course means that we do not reduce them to clinical pictures or disease patterns. All of our nursing staff is committed to this principle. They work in shifts, 24 hours a day, and put the doctor’s decisions into practice. The nursing leadership thus plays a key role in providing the direction and infrastructure to ensure that nurses are empowered to practice professionally and thus deliver high quality care. They are the backbone of treatment and your contact persons during your stay.
Behind the scenes they run many errands and perform many tasks having to do with your treatment. They have also an open ear for your wishes and problems at any time. Please do not hesitate to talk to the nurses on the wards about your feelings and needs. Nursing Service is the heart of the institution, which supports and provides comprehensive patient care at the primary, secondary, and tertiary care level within our institution.
At Sri Manakula Vinayagar Medical College and Hospital, the nurses are trained to not only execute the directions of a doctor; but also use theory and research based knowledge to provide direct and indirect care to the individuals and families. Patient education is another key factor of our patient care component. Patient education is important to enable individuals to better care for themselves and make informed decisions regarding medical care.
There is a comprehensive nursing concept which is oriented towards the patient’s needs and the furthering of the healing process. Sri Manakula Vinayagar Nursing College provides three-year training in nursing care and thus completes the spectrum of measures for continual quality improvement.

World Nurses Day Celebration 2026

As part of the International Nurses Day 2026 celebrations, the Department of Nursing organized a week-long series of awareness programs, competitions, and cultural activities from 04 May 2026 to 08 May 2026. The theme for International Nurses Day 2026 was “Our Nurses. Our Future. Empowered Nurses Save Lives.”

Day 1 – 04/05/2026
The celebrations commenced with the traditional Lighting of the Kuthuvilakku by the Administrative Team, including Dr. Kagen (Director), Dr. M. Pragash (Medical Superintendent), Dr. Karthikeyan (Dean – Academic), RMOs, Nursing Superintendent, doctors, nursing officers, nursing students, and patients.
Cervical Cancer Awareness Stall and Pamphlet Distribution
The Department of Nursing organized a Cervical Cancer Awareness Stall to educate the public on the importance of early detection and prevention of cervical cancer. Awareness pamphlets were distributed to patients and visitors. An educational session was delivered by Dr. Padmapriya Second-Year Postgraduate from the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
Face Painting Competition

Nursing students actively participated in a face painting competition, creatively conveying health awareness messages to patients and visitors.

Poster Presentation
Nursing students presented posters based on the International Nurses Day theme, highlighting the significant role of nurses in healthcare and promoting awareness among the public.

Overview of the Day of Evnet (12/05/2026)

The Department of Nursing, Sri Manakula Vinayagar Medical College and Hospital, celebrated World Nurses Day 2026 on 12th May 2026 at the Hospital Basement Auditorium. The program was organized to recognize and appreciate the invaluable contributions of nurses towards patient care and healthcare services. The celebration brought together nursing professionals, hospital administrators, faculty members, and dignitaries in a spirit of unity, dedication, and professional pride.

The event was conducted under the patronage of Shri. M. Dhanasekaran, Chancellor, Takshashila University, Tindivanam, Tamil Nadu and Chairman & Managing Director, SMVE Trust, along with the support of the management and hospital administration.

Program Highlight

The program commenced with a Prayer Song, invoking blessings for the successful conduct of the event.

Mrs. M. Narkis, Nursing Superintendent, delivered the Welcome Address, warmly welcoming the dignitaries, faculty members, nursing staff, and guests. She highlighted the pivotal role of nurses in ensuring quality patient care and emphasized the importance of professional commitment and compassion in nursing practice.

The traditional Lighting of the Kuthuvilakku was performed by the dignitaries, symbolizing the illumination of knowledge, service, and dedication in the nursing profession.

A solemn Photo Unveiling Ceremony of Florence Nightingale, the founder of modern nursing, was conducted as a mark of respect and gratitude to her enduring legacy.
The Candle Lighting Ceremony was performed by the nursing staff, symbolizing care, hope, compassion, and the noble spirit of nursing service.

The Nurse’s Pledge was administered by Mrs. N. Velanganni, Deputy Nursing Superintendent, reaffirming the ethical values, responsibilities, and commitment of nurses towards patient care and professional excellence.

A graceful Bharatanatyam performance by Ms. Lakshana added cultural richness to the celebration and was well appreciated by the audience.
Special Address

The gathering was honored by the special address delivered by Shri. M. Dhanasekaran, who acknowledged the tireless efforts, dedication, and sacrifices made by nurses in delivering quality healthcare services. He expressed appreciation for their unwavering commitment and encouraged the nursing fraternity to continue striving for excellence in patient care and professional development.

Theme Presentation

The Introduction of the World Nurses Day Theme was presented by Mrs. B. Leena Grace, Assistant Nursing Superintendent, highlighting the significance of the annual theme and its relevance to contemporary nursing practice. The presentation emphasized the vital role nurses play in strengthening healthcare systems and improving patient outcomes.

Cultural Program

A vibrant cultural program was organized by the nursing staff, featuring:

  • Other Cultural Presentations

The performances showcased the creativity, teamwork, and talents of the nursing professionals and received enthusiastic appreciation from the audience.

An Awards and Recognition Ceremony was conducted by Shri. M. Dhanasekaran to honor and appreciate the outstanding contributions and achievements of nursing personnel. Various awards and recognitions were presented to deserving staff members for their dedication, excellence in service, and professional accomplishments.

Vote 0f Thanks

The program concluded with a Vote of Thanks delivered by Mrs. Sudha, Deputy Nursing Superintendent, who expressed heartfelt gratitude to the management, dignitaries, organizers, participants, and nursing staff for their valuable contributions towards the success of the celebration.

The event concluded with the National Anthem.

Nurses day celebration begun with prayer song followed by welcome speech by Staff Nurse Kirubavathi and lighting of kuthuvillakku by Dignitaries.

Unveiling photo of Florence nightingale was done by Acting Nursing superintendent in honor of the founder of modern nursing. Candle lighting ceremony was done by all staff nurses to symbolize the dedication, compassion and unity of nursing staff. Nurses pledge was recited by DNS. Velankanni to reaffirm this commitment to the value and principle of nursing profession, followed by a classical dance by nursing students Miss. Leona, Miss. Devapriya. Special speech given by Deputy Dean (Academic) Dr. Soundariya. Introduction of Theme by DNS Mohana “Our Nurses Our Future caring for Nurses strengthens Economies” and started our cultural programme Karagam, Drama, Miming, Advertisement Price distribution for winners. Nurses day celebration organized by Acting Nursing Superintendent Mrs. Rajalakshmi.
